Make, Model & Year: 1973 Suzuki XR440
Fondly known as: "Mod Sled"
Time spent: 100+
Sled cost: Primarily made up of left over parts I had.
Money spent: $200 or so on parts I didn't have.
Engine: Engine is from a 1973 Suzuki XR440, 440cc, 36hp. It's all stock and never been opened up and has 700 miles on it.
Intake: Twin Mikuni VM30 carbs with chrome Polaris intake covers.
Exhaust: Suzuki y- pipe mated to tuned exhaust my dad had on his 70 Arctic Cat 340 Mod.
Drivetrain: Comet Duster primary clutch. Chassis updated to die cast aluminum chain case and secondary clutch from XR440 Suzuki. Drive sprockets are my own custom UHMW design.
Tunnel/Chassis Modifications: Chassis is from a 1973 SM30 Suzuki Nomad with 292cc engine. It's been modified for a-arm front suspension. Stock steering post extended 10" with Arctic Cat atv post. Custom linkage type steering was made to accommodate the new front suspension.
Suspension: Custom front a- arms started out life on a Yamaha YFZ450R race quad. They were modified to accept modified spindles off a late 90s Arctic Cat. Shocks are from 2009 YFZ450R. Skis are off a 2015 Arctic Cat. Tie rods are custom. Rear seat suspension was created using linkage, seat and PEP shock off a 2005 Yamaha YFZ450 race quad. Stock bogie suspension resides under the tunnel for now.
Brakes: Stock Suzuki disk with custom extended cable.
Finish - Paint: Spray paint mixed with some powder coat and custom decals.
Accessories: Suzuki tachometer, speedometer and electric start. Acerbis handguards, Renthal bars and grips, custom windshield.
